Availability
The external expert connector is in preparation and is not yet available for general use. This guide describes the approved launch experience. Compatibility with each AI application will be confirmed before its listing is published.
Connect your account
When available, add Chat.co from your AI application’s connection settings. Sign in to Chat.co, review the application requesting access, and select one workspace. That workspace determines which experts and message allocation the connection can use.
Approve the connection and ask which experts are available. You use your own Chat.co login; you do not need to share an API key or another person’s account.
Experts and supporting documents
If you can chat with an expert in Chat.co, you can ask that expert through the connector. Follow-up questions stay with the same expert conversation. Your current account, workspace, and license permissions still apply.
Document-based answers include citations and links to the actual supporting documents. You do not need permission to manage the expert’s knowledge base to open evidence for an answer you are allowed to receive. Private documents require sign-in and current access; deleted or unavailable sources may no longer open.
Searching documents directly is a separate capability. It is available only when your account has permission to retrieve that expert’s knowledge. The expert list identifies whether you have that access.
Message credits
| Activity | Charge |
|---|---|
| Ask an expert | The expert’s normal Chat.co message rate |
| Completed standalone document search | 0.5 message credit |
| Retrieval performed inside an expert answer | No additional search charge |
| List experts or open returned evidence | Free |
A completed search can have no matching results and still uses 0.5 credit. Failed searches, inaccessible expert selections, and retries of the same operation do not add a charge. Existing message allocations apply; there is no checkout in the connector.
If the allocation is insufficient, new paid requests stop. You can still list your experts and open previously returned evidence while you retain access to it. Manage allocation through your usual Chat.co account process.
Data and privacy
A connected application can send your questions to Chat.co and receive the authorized answers, source excerpts, citations, and document links. Where requested during sign-in, it also receives your account identifier, email address, and email-verification status. It cannot manage or delete your chatbots through this connector.
The external application’s own terms and privacy policy govern the information it receives. Disconnecting stops future connector access but cannot remove content already delivered to that application. Chat.co’s Privacy Policy and Terms apply to your use of Chat.co.
Manage your connections
Open Connected applications to review each application and its workspace, or disconnect it. To reconnect, start again from the external application’s connection settings.
If an expert is missing, check that you selected the correct workspace and still have access in Chat.co. If a private document does not open, sign in with the account that received the answer. A removed license or deleted source may make it unavailable.
